Write a request without a hidden consequence

Make the actual choice clear when you are asking someone to do something.

Try this

  1. Identify what you will do if the answer is no. If that affects shared logistics, state it plainly.
  2. Remove wording that offers a choice while silently planning to punish one answer. Reconsider the request if you cannot accept the options you present.

A worked example

“Would you like to join dinner? If not, I’ll eat at home and we can leave the evening separate.”

An invented example to adapt, not a real exchange or a script you have to follow.

Before you leave it here

Do not write “either is fine” unless it is true enough to act on. Honest disappointment can be expressed without making a supposed choice deceptive.

This is a voluntary planning exercise. Keep your notes private, adapt the language, and leave any question unanswered. It does not require Ourling or a purchase.
